When The Oreos Are Screaming At You

Ever had an insane attack of the munchies at 10pm and those chips that weren’t tempting at 5pm are SCREAMING your name now?  Or how about the staff room/co-worker’s candy bowl that distracts you all. day. long. because you know your favorite treats are in there? You’re not alone. We’ve all been there. If food is around us we tend to get hungry. If it’s food we really enjoy it can become all consuming on Read more…

Been Wanting An Activity Tracker? This Is The Best Deal I’ve Seen

We’re NOT too busy to meet our health goals, but sometimes we have to get creative to find ways to work them into our busy lives. If a 5am gym session isn’t in your schedule then 5 and 10 minutes through out your day can be just as effective. Activity trackers like Fitbit, Jawbone and Misfit won’t get you moving, but if you’re already trying to sneak activity into your day they can be incredibly Read more…

Want To Avoid Eating Juicy Styrofoam? These Infographics Are Your Friend

Right now it seems like almost everything is in season…apples, berries, carrots, beans, greens, peppers, tomatoes, squash, etc. The produce section is a pretty place with some of the lowest prices of the year as farmers are trying to move their bounty into our houses before it’s overripe.  But what if you’re not a farmer or gardener and you’ve never really paid attention to the seasonality of particular foods. I mean, we can get most Read more…

There are seasons when it makes sense to stop buying peanut butter/ice cream/chips/etc because we’re eating them like 3 year olds at 10pm each night. But, in the long run, these foods are not evil and we’re not ‘bad’ if we eat them. We just need to practice self control and establish some boundaries with them.  Read more…

Camping With (Mostly) Real Food :)

7 people, 1 tent, rain, s’mores, canoeing, mosquitoes, biking and cooking over an open fire…it was memorable! We started our annual camping/canoeing trip several years ago and they’ve gotten much easier because the kids are older and can help out quite a bit at this point. This year, 4 of the kids were given specific cooking responsibilities. We had…. …The S’mores Elf… …The BLT Queen… …The Breakfast Babe… ….and, The Hot Dog King! The kids’ Read more…

We leave tomorrow for our annual camping trip….5 kids + 2 adults in ONE tent. Hoo-boy…we’re either gonna bond or kill each other! 🙂 It’s one of the kids’ favorite trips of the year….cooking over a fire, riding bikes all afternoon, staying up late to see the stars, canoeing and s’mores. The ‘Everyday on Everything’ Seasoning

Everyone needs a few no-brainer meals to get through those days when all our brain cells are used up by 3pm. This seasoning is what makes several of my no-brainers work:  Recipe: 1 cup Kosher salt, 1/4c black pepper, 1/4c garlic powder, 1/4c onion powder. Shake it up and done! To make it even more of a no-brainer I keep the recipe written on the lid of the container.  Where to use it? See those Read more…
