Right now it seems like almost everything is in season…apples, berries, carrots, beans, greens, peppers, tomatoes, squash, etc. The produce section is a pretty place with some of the lowest prices of the year as farmers are trying to move their bounty into our houses before it’s overripe.
But what if you’re not a farmer or gardener and you’ve never really paid attention to the seasonality of particular foods. I mean, we can get most produce year round. Those tomatoes might taste like juicy Styrofoam in February, but you can buy them if you want to!
For the rest of us, who want to eat produce that tastes amazing, these infographics from Farm Flavor are wonderful. This website has easy-to-read graphs of what’s in season in different areas of the US. They might not have your specific state listed yet, but they’ll probably have one close by you so you’ll know what produce will be at it’s best, cheapest…and least Styrofoamy. 🙂
Enjoy!
