You never have to walk in the gym. You could just sit in the car.

You never have to go for a run. You could just put the shoes on.

You never have to eat a salad. You could just put the veggies in your cart.

If you just breathed a sigh of relief I bet you’ve talked yourself out of doing a long list of activities because just the thought was overwhelming.

I’ve been there too. In fact, I was there Monday morning. It was early, cold and dark. I was tired and desperately wanted to stay in bed, but I knew the 5am class at the gym was my 1 chance all day to sneak in a work out. I did end up going, but I mentally only promised to get to the gym. If I’d gotten there and then decided I didn’t want to go in…that was fine! As I walked in I promised myself I could slip out early if I really wanted to (which, I could). Forty minutes later I left, fully awake and glad I had stayed for the whole class.

Full disclosure: there have been times I drove all the way into town, sat in the parking lot for a bit and then came right back home without ever entering the gym. Some days my ‘umph’ is gone…that’s just real life. But I’ve learned, in the long run, giving myself the permission to get ready to make a healthy choice…even if I haven’t committed to actually following through with it… usually leads to actually getting it done, without all the ‘you should be doing…..’ conversations that I used to beat myself up with.

If you removed even one ‘you should be doing…’ from your life today, and gave yourself the freedom to take the first step without committing to a full hour of cardio or a lifetime of vegetables, what would that look like? What would you try?

Sometimes we need help to take that first step…to put the shoes on or buy the fresh produce. If you find yourself wishing you could just try the first step, but knowing you need accountability I’d love to talk to you! I have 2 spots open for 1-on-1 online coaching where we’ll work together to find daily, consistent, doable steps that work in your real life. No forbidden foods or lists of exotic ingredients, no calorie counting and crazy work outs…just basic nutritional habits, daily accountability and encouragement and a safe place to ask questions, learn and grow. If you know that’s what you need to take that first step, click the link below for more information or to ask a question. Can’t wait to hear from you!
