I hesitate to give hard and fast rules for healthy eating because there are as many valid methods as there are people to try them. As long as your food is mostly real, whole food (fruits, veggies, nuts, meat, whole grains, legumes) and you’re eating a reasonable amount of it, you’re probably OK.

The 2 Meal Rule isn’t hard and fast, but it’s a good rule of thumb. Basically, it’s the idea that almost no one eats a reasonable amount of whole foods at every meal. Sometimes this is planned (birthday, holiday, vacation) and sometimes it sneaks up on us (Friday night after a long week and a bag of Oreos is devoured). The 2 Meal Rule is that we won’t miss a healthy meal twice. ‘Off track’ meals happen and it’s OK. The next meal is our chance to jump right back on track and keep moving forward.

See what we did there? Instead of chasing the Oreos with a weekend full of pizza, chips and ice cream we didn’t let what happened Friday night dictate the rest of the weekend.

The 2 Meal Rule is simple enough once you’ve practiced it a bit and it’s a lot easier to practice with someone. Maybe you have a family member who would be willing to try it out with you. Great! Maybe you don’t…that’s where our FREE 14-day Spring Cleaning for Your Health Challenge might come in handy. You’ll have the chance to join Thrive’s private Facebook group and live life with a group of ladies who are practicing healthy habits.
