What is ‘healthy?’ Is it eating fruit? Buying organic food? Cooking at home? Eating whole foods? Avoiding fat/carbs/sugar? Eating whole wheat or avoiding gluten?
‘Healthy’ is a hard word to define because part of it will be dictated by your individual body. For a person with Celiac Disease, whole wheat bread is not healthy. For someone who is lactose intolerant Greek yogurt is not healthy. Yet that same bread and yogurt can be incredibly nourishing to another person. ‘Healthy’ is partially defined by how your body reacts to specific foods.
Of course, health is not all about food. Our level of activity, stress level, environment and relationships are all involved in how ‘healthy‘ we are.
Some other questions to consider:
- If something is healthy for me in small doses, it is still healthy in larger doses?
- Is it sustainable or does it cause stress?
- Is it cost effective? Can I afford this food/activity in my budget? Can I afford this food/activity NOT to be in my budget?
- Does it strengthen or hinder relationships with the people close to me?
- Is it helping me reach my main goals in life?
Health is individual and it takes some experimentation to find. If you’re interested in finding out what’s healthy for your body you’re invited to join us for a FREE 14 day Spring Cleaning Challenge. We’ll be focusing on drinking water, eating produce and weeding out unhelpful habits that have crept in over the Winter. The Challenge runs from April 2 (the day after Easter!) to April 15th.
